Be Prepared for the Rainy Northwest Season with These Window Prep Tips

After a long summer filled with warm sunny days, it is now time to settle down and start to think about the upcoming rainy season that plagues the Pacific Northwest every year. In an effort to help you prepare for the rainy season, we have created an easy-to-follow guide that will walk you through how to check to make sure your windows are strong and sturdy enough to last the season.

Look for Any Signs of Potential Leaks

Just because you don’t see an active leak in or around your windows doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem. Sometimes, depending upon the weather and how the rain is falling, your windows could leak. Without standing near the windows when this happens, the only way for you to notice if the windows are leaking is by looking for signs of a leak.

Signs that your windows may be leaking include:

  • Warped paint or wood around the windows
  • Mold
  • Mildew

Check the Seals Around the Windows

Even the smallest gap in the seal around your windows can bring in a lot of water. Before every rainy season it is a good idea to check the seals.

The seals around newer windows often don’t need to be inspected or replaced, but it is still a good idea to look for any leaks or gaps that may have developed. Where you really want to look is the sealing around older windows. Look for any cracks, gaps, or missing sections of the sealing and replace it.

Check the Window Frames on the Outside

Homeowners often think they only need to check the windows from the inside, but they also need to check the outside of the windows. Homeowners need to check the window frames around the outside of the windows. If the frames are loose or damaged, they could come off during a heavy rainstorm and water may come inside.

This year don’t be caught unprepared. Start checking your windows for leaks or damage before the rain starts. If you notice that your windows need to be replaced, Express Window Services can help. Contact us today to schedule an appointment for a free in-home estimate for new windows.
